The early adopters are out and the race has begun.  10 online clubs are official and we’re aiming to be a chartered official club also for Tuesday nights.  Same great program, but combined advanced speakers and new speakers together for plenty of mentoring.  Mentoring at all levels.  Friendship also of course.

4 weeks ago we launched this online demo meeting pre charter Toastmaster club.  We started with 3 and then 4 and then 11 attendees.  We now have 2 club sponsors and 2 club mentors! The plan is coming together.  Meeting Toastmasters and Guests around the world right here in this virtual meeting with Zoom web based software is exciting!  So far we have had guests from Canada, Malaysia, Philippines, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Australia to name a few!!!

It takes a TEAM to run an effective Toastmasters meeting or any meeting.  Running and organizing a Toastmaster meeting really helps run any meeting.  The experience is very valuable.  I am so impressed and pleased with our progress.  The new friendships is an added bonus!  Ongoing communication and leadership skills through the Toastmaster educational program is so valuable too!

I urge anyone who has never attended a Toastmaster meeting or an online Toastmaster meeting to try it out.  Try it on by observing and participating by signing up right after being a guest.  The speech manuals and leadership manuals walk you through the entire process. There is no guessing.  We follow the path Toastmasters have carved for over 90 years.

Click on one or both of the meeting links from tonite.  the first 1/2 hour is for sound check, mingling, happy hour, unwind from the day, and the official club meeting is 1 hour.  A very packed agenda 1 hour.  But we stayed on track.  We followed the Toastmaster system or program.

See you next Tuesday.  Ready?

Many Toastmasters are Alpha Phi Omega Brothers or Vice Versa – Coincidence BOTH service organizations have been around for over 90 years?

Vice President Public Relations, WestBocaToastmasters.org 2015-16
Vice President Membership, Xi Zeta chapter, Alpha Phi Omega 1992-3 Land based chapter
Club Advocate, District 47, Toastmasters International, WCR Toastmasters , May 2017 to June 2017
Vice President Public Relations, Online Presenters, Online Toastmasters club, March 2017 to June 2017
Founder, APOPBROCKS.com, Alumni Association of the Palm Beaches, Alpha Phi Omega

I always wondered the coincidence of both non profit organizations being around for over 90 years.  Alpha Phi Omega was founded by Frank Reed Horton in 1925.  Toastmasters was founded by Ralph Smedley in 1924 with the 1st Toastmaster club.  Both organizations have members and brothers span the entire globe.  Both organizations focus on leadership and communication skills through community service.

“During the first World War, I served as an ensign in the United States Navy aboard a minesweeper in the North Sea. Our ship and its partner exploded more than 1,000 magnetic mines. My law school background at Boston University led to my appointment to try court martial cases in our division. When we reached ports some of the sailors ran wild. Many court martial cases resulted. I saw young boys in their teens getting into trouble.” Frank says.

According the Toastmasters International Headquarters website:  To save time replying to the many letters and inquiries he was receiving, Smedley wrote the “Manual of Instructions” and “Ten Lessons in Public Speaking,” which he had printed and bound in paper covers. On October 25, 1928, he secured copyrights on the publications and trademarked the name “Toastmasters Club.”

Ralph Smedley secured the copyrights and Trademarks for Toastmasters just 3 days BEFORE my birthday, only 89 years ago today!  Right around my birthday, October 28th, I think about the birth of Toastmasters.

Interestingly enough, In 1970, Toastmasters International admitted its first female member, Helen Blanchard, under the name Homer Blanchard. In 1973, Toastmasters began officially admitting women, and in 1985, Helen became Toastmasters’ first female international president, according to the TI website.

In the 70’s BOTH Alpha Phi Omega and Toastmasters opened their membership to women.  While Toastmasters is a self development organization, Alpha Phi Omega is a Fraternity that became a co-ed Fraternity.

Whether you are a member of Toastmasters or Alpha Phi Omega, or a future member of either organization or a guest, Friends of these two groups are absolutely friends of mine.  The core values of Toastmasters, Integrity, Respect, Service and Excellence and the 3 cardinal principles of Alpha Phi Omega, Leadership, Friendship, and Service, are fantastic foundations and disciplines to get the edge on life and careers.

Brothers of Alpha Phi Omega and guests, Members and guests of Toastmasters, I invite you to this unique online club opportunity, CompetitiveCommunicators.com, Where Leaders are made online.  Regular weekly meetings open globally to empower our communication and leadership skills.  See the site above for more information.

History is made tonite, May 9th, 2017 – The 1st online Meeting for CompetitiveCommunicators.com Pre Charter Toastmasters club….(Tuesday night EST time zone – Turn off your TV and see the entertainment, the practice value, the Speech muscle value and so much more…)

Welcome to Competitive Communicators!  Tonite we just had our first kickoff meeting!  We are headed to 25 to 35 charter strength members in the next 3 to 6 months.  Think of professionals and professional caregivers, sales professionals, Toastmasters who would like to get an additional speech project completed, brand new Toastmasters, Guests and everyone who can use the Toastmaster program to get the edge on life.  Retired golfers also would like to achieve more goals.

We ran the meeting exactly how a Toastmaster, future Toastmaster and guest would expect a Toastmaster meeting to be run.  The Sergeant at arms opens the meeting and has the venue or online tools open to working par,  Then the virtual lectern is turned over to the Club President Pro Tem for introductions.  Next the President introduces the Toastmaster of the day to explain the three parts to a Toastmaster meeting.  We did exactly that!

I think I heard 6 to 7 table topics tonite!  What a marathon!  I think the participants from Table topics got their money’s worth from tonite!  Did I tell you?  No dues and No charge for meetings until we officially charter!!!  What!!!!  A FREE Pre Charter Toastmaster meeting!!  Crazy, BUT exciting!!

We listened to 1 prepared ice breaker speech by Paul Finkelstein from Delray Beach, FL, ‘USA. And we heard from our meeting General Evaluator, John Gentithes and Evaluator of the day, Zaldy Co, from Manila, Philippines.

Visit www.CompetitiveCommunicators.com for MORE INFORMATION about the time zone converter, the times, and more details about us.  Please join us as a guest!  Guests can participate, BUT it is totally OPTIONAL.

Too much FUN.  So much practice.  Where Leaders are made!
